Lanzarote has a number of popular resorts areas that bring back visitors year after year but Puerto del Carmen seems to remain a favourite due to its sheltered position and excellent sunshine record.
These conditions mean that visitors can thoroughly enjoy the golden sandy beaches that run along its seafront, whether they are swimming, snorkeling or sun bathing. In addition, there have been recent improvements to the promenade which has greatly enhanced it for pedestrians.
Over the course of its history, Puerto del Carmen has been transformed from a small village surrounding a harbour to a tourist destination. The majority of visitors to the town will stay in self-catering accommodation, of which there is an extensive selection. Travellers on a tight budget are well catered for as there are plenty of holiday villas in Lanzarote to take your pick from.
Alongside apartments there is also a great range of holiday villas in Lanzarote to be found in Puerto del Carmen. Obviously the villas tend to be more spacious and better equipped than the apartments, with many extras included as a matter of course.
Whilst most of these properties have been established specifically as holiday rentals, the vast majority of owners kit them out as if they are a home from home. With books, films and games supplied to provide entertainment when guests tire of lying by the pool.
There is no shortage of restaurants throughout the town, with almost every type of cuisine represented from Thai to Irish. Perhaps the most atmospheric area for dining is the old harbour, where numerous establishments look out over the sea towards the southern tip of the island.
For those who enjoy late nights whilst on holiday, there is a wide choice of clubs and bars mostly situated in the central area of the town. Unsurprisingly, many of the music venues don’t open their doors until the small hours, as is typical of Spanish nightspots.
